Computer Technlogy typed page 92, section 37C for speed and accuracy (about 10 minutes).  They then made final preparations for their Microsoft Word unit test tomorrow.  The test will have 50 multiple choice questions and a small document to create.

Accounting got back their “Steps 1-4″ 3-page handout.  Several students needed to redo their work.  They learned a little about how easy it is to detect cheating in accounting and reviewed about 16 prominent cases of accounting abuse that lead to prison terms for people like Andy Fastow of Enron (10 years in prison), Timothy Rigas of Adelphia (20 years in prison), Bernie Ebbers of WorldCom (25 years in prison), Dennis Kozlowski of Tyco (8-25 years in prison), and James A. Brown of Merrill Lynch (3 years, 10 months in prison).  They received another 3-page handout titled, “Steps 1-4, again” that required them to (1) analyze transactions, (2) record transactions in a General journal, (3) post to a General ledger and (4) create an accounting worksheet.

Computer Technology typed page 90, section 36C for speed and accuracy (about 11 minutes).  They then took an 18-question practice test about Microsoft Word.  Finally, they continued working on their Word lessons.  The Word unit test is Friday, November 6.

Accounting finished up the On Your Own on pages 153, 158, and 163 (one large problem).  They also finished up Application Problems 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3 (another single large problem).  Finally, they learned to format an accounting worksheet for a company that suffered a net loss.

Accounting finished up the “Steps 1-4″ 3-page handout from yesterday.  They then worked on the On Your Own on pages 153, 158 and 163 (one large problem) and Application Problems 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3 (one large problem).

Virtual Enterprise worked on recording the sales of last Friday’s grand opening by processing approximately 300 customer checks.  The made a plan to produce over 1200 boxes for the state trade fair in Bakersfield.  They picked out oral and “mail-in” competitions that they intend to participate in at the state trade fair.

Computer Techonology typed page 89, section 36B, lines 1-12 for speed and accuracy.  They learned the difference between a bound report and an unbound report.  They reviewed how to insert a page break.  They then worked on their Microsoft Word lessons.  Practice test on Wednesday, unit test on Friday.

Accounting learned the correct method of correcting errors on accounting forms.  They then worked on a 3-page handout titled, “Steps 1-4″ that had them completing the first four steps of the accounting cycle–from analyzing transactions to journalizing to posting to completing a worksheet.

Virtual Enterprise held their weekly staff meeting.  They made a list of what needed to accomplished prior to the Bakersfield Trade Fair on December 1-3.  They discussed:  fundraisers, researching new uniforms (the old order was cancelled by the vendor), paying personal Virtual Enterprise bills promptly, oral competitions, a new batch of inventory, booth logistics, and problems with the guest checks.

Computer Technology typed page 88, section 35D for speed and accuracy (this took about 9 minutes).  They then worked on their Microsoft Word lessons.  A second practice Word test will be offered on Wednesday, November 4.  The Word Unit test is Friday, November 6.

Accounting learned to complete a monthly accounting worksheet that included account names, trial balance, income statement and balance sheet.  They calculated the net income and made sure that debit equalled credits.

Virtual Enterprise held their grand opening during both lunches today.  They spent their class time analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and began to prepare for the Bakersfield Trade Fair trip (December 1-3, 2009).

Computer Technology typed page 79, section 31C for speed and accuracy.  We then went over the answers to yesterday’s 30-question quiz and emphasized the need to create good notes.  Students then had time to continue with their Microsoft Word lessons.  The Microsoft Word unit test will be given on Friday, November 6.

Accounting students presented their original creative Accounting Cycle illustrations in front of the class and then posted them on the classroom wall.  They learned about adjusting entries and why they are used.  They learned what a fiscal year is and why many companies use a fiscal year rather than a calendar year.

Virtual Enterprise is completing last-minute preparations for tomorrow’s big Grand Opening of their Castle of Jewels jewelry store.

Computer Technology took a 30-question practice test on lessons 1-11 of the Microsoft Word unit.

Virtual Enterprise is making paper boxes with lids for the products they are selling at Friday’s grand opening.  They are matching up individual items to the sales sheets and marking display items with product numbers.

Computer Technology typed up a block-style letter titled “Central Chemical Finance” to help review the format of a business letter.  They then worked on their Microsoft Word lessons.  They will have a practice test on Microsoft Word lessons 1-11 tomorrow.  30 questions, open notes.

Accounting is working on their original creative illustration of the accounting cycle.

Virtual Enterprise is preparing for Friday’s grand opening.  They are making paper boxes and deciding on personal and logistics of the day.

Computer Technology typed a one-page handout for speed and accuracy titled, “Who is Successful?” that encouraged the students to have a goal and be working on it every day. They then worked on their Microsoft Word lessons. They will have a practice quiz on Word lessons 1-11 on Wednesday, October 28. The Word Unit test is scheduled for November 6.

Accounting is working on their original and creative Accounting Cycle illustration.  It is due on Wednesday, October 28.

Virtual Enterprise held their weekly staff meeting.  They orgainzed a working schedule for the upcoming Grand Opening.  They came to concensus about how to display and tag their display merchandise.  The departments continued their individual projects.

Computer Technology typed page 77, section 30C for speed and accuracy.  They took 3-minute timed writings and updated the classroom progress chart.  Their notebooks were collected for teacher review.  They worked on their Microsoft Word Lessons.

Accounting compared the Net Income of the 24 corporations they had researched last week.  They began to create an original depiction of the Accounting Cycle for the classroom walls.  They were encouraged to be creative and to illustrate the eight steps of the accounting cycle.

Virtual Enterprise took their display booth to the Commons (the cafeteria) and set it up to decide the logistics of their grand opening.  They reviewed one of the video commercials created by the Marketing team.
