School was closed for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Computer Technology took the Excel unit test today.

Accounting took a test on Chapters 7 and 8:  Worksheets, Income Statements, Balance Sheets

Virtual Enterprise made final preparations for their December 1-3 trip to the state trade faire.  The marketing plan team made a practice presentation.

Computer Technology created an original ½-page essay using one of these starter sentences:  “A friend of mine is going blind.” or “The most interesting continent is __________ because __________.”  They then prepared for tomorrow’s Excel Unit test.

Accounting completed Challenge Problem 8-4 and Recycle Problem 7-1 in preparation of tomorrow’s unit test on accounting Worksheets, Income Statements, and Balance Sheets.

Computer Technology typed page 136, section 54D for speed and accuracy.  They took a practice Excel test in prepartation of Tuesday’s unit final.  They continued to work through their Excel lessons.

Accounting completed Application Problems 8-1, 8-2, and Mastery Problem 8-3 that had them preparing Income Statements and Balance Sheets.

Virtual Enterprise practiced their competition oral presentations today.

Computer Technology typed page 118, memo 2 for speed and accuracy.  They then worked on their Excel unit lessons.  Unit test on Tuesday, November 24.

Accounting created two income statements for the Oz Trucking company.  They learned to create an income statement in an Excel spreadsheet.

Virtual Enterprise began rehearsals for the oral competitions.  The Personal Interview contestant went first.

Computer Technology typed page 113, section 44C for speed and accuracy.  They then worked on their Excel lessons.  They will have a practice test on Friday, November 20 (lessons 1-9) and a Unit test on Tuesday, November 24 (lessons 1-10).

Accounting finished up their 3-part “Exercises–Simple Financial Statements” handout.

Computer Technology created an original ½-page story that included these words:  benefit, inegrity, energy, concentration, zebra, region, task and exceed.  They then worked on their Excel lessons.  Practice test on Friday, November 20 covering lessons 1-9; Unit test on Tuesday, November 24 covering lessons 1-10.

Accounting created an income statement for the Brooking Tax Accounting Company from information on the overhead.  They then worked on a handout titled, “Exercises–Simple Finanacial Statements” that required them to create an income statement and a balance sheet for three differenct companies.

Computer Technology typed page 112, section 44B, lines 13-26 for speed and accuracy.  They learned the difference between Excel 2007 native mode and Excel 2007 compatibility mode.  They learned to update files saved in compatibility mode to native 20o7 mode and about the much larger worksheet size of the 2007 native mode.  They will take a practice test on Excel lessons 1 through 9 on Friday, November 20.  They will take the Excel Unit test on Tuesday, November 24 (lessons 1-10).

Accounting learned to create an income statement from information on the accounting worksheet.  They learned to calculate ending capital from information on the accouning worksheet.  They created a balance sheet from information on the accounting worksheet.  We completed the Work Together problems on pages 180 and 185 of the textbook.  Students completed the On Your Own problems on pages 180 and 185 of the textbook.

Computer Technology typed page 112, section 44B, lines 1-13 for speed and accuracy.  They then took a 3-minute timed writing and updated the classroom progress chart.  Finally they followed along with some guided practice to learn these spreadsheet skills:  fill a series; increase/decrease decimal places of a number; merge and center cells; insert a new column; and change row height.

Accounting took a test about lawmakers that represent them, payroll taxes, corporation products they have researched, and accounting worksheets.

Virtual Enterprise is preparing for their Trade Fair competitions

Computer Technology typed page 108, section 42B for speed and accuracy (about 11 minutes).  They then continued with the Excel lecture series.  They learned how to adjust column width to “best fit”; they learned the difference between arithmetic formulas and function formulas; they learned function formulas for SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, COUNT,  and COUNTA; they reviewed order of operation; and they learned to copy a formula down a column.

Accounting reviewed for tomorrow’s exam.  They reviewed: (1) lawmakers that represent them at the Federal, State and local levels, (2) the five payroll taxes that Californian employees pay, (3) company products that they researched, and (4) accounting worksheets.  They then completed Recycling Problem 7-1 on page C-7 in the Appendix C of their textbook.

Virtual Enterprise is preparing their oral presentations by department.  Also, the video team is beginning work on a second video commercial.
